Elm Snow from "Garden Suite" for String Quartet

David Grunberg & Sergio Reyes - Violins, Kelly Dylla - Viola, Catherine Bent - Cello
Live Concert December 2002
Composed by Deborah Weisz

Inspired by the visual image of falling Elm Snow, the way it swirls and dances, sometimes slow, sometime fast... always graceful. I was playing with the idea of taking an entire piece to present one long musical line. I also heard this long line being presented in a very improvisatory manner. Even though every note is written down, the notation I used gives the performers a lot of freedom in interpretation, so this movement will sound as if it was ‘improvised,’ and will be different in each performance.
